User Invitation Error: “User cannot be invited”

Description

When inviting a new user to your Devici organization, the following error may be displayed:

User cannot be invited

This error prevents the invitation from being sent successfully.


Cause

This error occurs when the email address being invited already exists in Devici and is associated with another organization.

A single email address can only be associated with one Devici organization at a time.


Resolution

To resolve this issue, the user must update their email address in their existing Devici account before being invited to the new organization.

Once the email address is no longer associated with the original organization, the invitation can be resent successfully.


Steps

  1. The user signs in to their original Devici account.
  2. The user navigates to Profile settings.
  3. The user updates their email address to an alternate address, for example:

    firstname.lastname+1@company.com

    The domain may remain the same; adding a suffix (such as +1) allows the original email address to be reused for access to a different organization.

  4. The user saves the changes.

  5. The administrator resends the invitation using the user’s original email address.
  6. Once the email is no longer associated with the first organization, the invitation will succeed.

Notes and best practices

  • Email aliases (such as +1) are commonly supported by corporate email systems.
  • Ensure the updated email address can still receive email notifications if the user needs continued access to the original organization.
  • This approach allows for fast resolution without requiring administrator or support intervention.
